Kaya ChildCare is a social enterprise aimed at reducing the health and security risks faced by babies and infants of head porters (locally known as kayayoo) in markets in Accra, Ghana, by providing them with an early childhood centre that uses the learning-through-play model to aid their development. Several initiatives in an attempt to eradicate the head porterage profession have failed to address the effects of this phenomenon on the vulnerable child. Kaya Childcare provides the kayayo mother peace of mind, while they go about their daily hard-laboured work, knowing that their child is safe and is receiving good quality childcare and education, which every child has the right to.<\/p>\n

Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n Job Title:\u00a0ChildCare Centre Manager<\/strong><\/p>\n POSITION SUMMARY<\/strong><\/p>\n Kaya ChildCare is looking for an individual (preferably female) with the ability to work as part of a team, to assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Kaya ChildCare\u2019s centre.. The Centre Manager will be responsible for program planning and financial management, implementing curriculum, working effectively with staff, working with children and their families, connecting with the community, and administrative responsibilities related to the day-to-day operations of the child care centre. The Centre Manager is also responsible for providing leadership and ensuring consistency with the mission and vision of the Kaya ChildCare.<\/p>\n REQUIREMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n Formal training in Early Childhood Development KEY RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n Specifically, the Center Manager will perform duties related but not limited to the following:<\/p>\n Teaching and Caregiving EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND<\/strong><\/p>\n At least a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in a related field. \nOutstanding team building skills and the ability to address challenges with creative solutions
\nDemonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience working with children below age 6
\nFluent in at least two local languages, including Twi. Fluency in Dagomba will be a plus
\nWorking knowledge of budgeting and financial management
\nCapacity to work with diverse individuals and groups, as well as good community engagement skills
\nAbility to determine priorities, be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision in a startup environment
\nA non-judgemental and positive attitude; sensitivity in dealing with multicultural issues
\nAbility to form caring and trusting relationships with children and their families<\/p>\n
\nActively be involved in the direct teaching and care of children enrolled at the centre
\nAdministrative
\nWork together with Community Development Officer in developing and monitoring the budget of the ChildCare centre
\nEnsure that adequate records are maintained and compiled for reports to stakeholders
\nMaintain a safe and healthy environment for children and to create a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere
\nRegular contact and act as a resource for parents and families
\nPrepare and manage budgets, newsletters, and annual reports
\nPlanning and Implementation
\nPlan and implement a program that reflects Kaya ChildCare\u2019s learn-through-play curriculum
\nMaintain records of each child\u2019s routine and progress, and keep records of matters parents should be informed of
\nStaff Supervision
\nDirectly manage the Community Development Officer
\nManage caregiver resources effectively to ensure that they work as members of a team, have input into planning and have opportunities for improving their professional skills
\nProvide support and direction to caregivers regarding child development
\nConduct appraisals on each caregiver and all other centre staff
\nAssist with the hiring process of centre staff and make recommendations on staffing<\/p>\n\n
