Newmont\u2019s industry leading performance is reflected through our Africa operations\u2019 high standards in environmental management, health, and safety for our workforce and creating value and opportunity for our employees, host communities and Newmont\u2019s shareholders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title:\u00a0Geology Technician I<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Dimensions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To lead the Sampling crews in the measurement and interpretation of data taken from sampling activities (i.e. field sample collections and submissions) to support the generation of Ore Control dig polygons for mining.<\/p>\n<p>Essential Duties<\/p>\n<p><strong>Geological Sampling<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Delegate work to Samplers to perform various daily sampling activities (i.e. Blast Hole, Trenches, Grab).<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Operate Light Vehicles for sampling activities and Ditch Witch machine for cutting sample trenches.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Ensure sampling pegs are kept in their right positions and labeled for easy after drill pick-ups by survey.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Grade Control Geologist Support<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Assist the Grade Control Geologist in the day-to-day in-pit geological activities (i.e. fixing of ore mark out, blasthole logging, blast movement installation and monitoring, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Data Collection and Quality Control<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Ensure all sampling data is captured on sample submission sheet.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Assist in the capturing of all geological field data (core drilling, RC drilling, blasthole, density, grab samples, mapping, moisture content etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Environment, Health and Safety Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every employee under or assigned to his\/her supervision.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Provide hands-on assistance during operations activities and ensuring that safe work practices are followed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Staff Supervision<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Oversee that the Samplers complete all allocated tasks assigned on a shift.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Ensure effective communication among the sampling team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Training &amp; Experience<\/p>\n<p><strong>Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Senior High School Certificate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Additional Knowledge:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Previous knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximising the output of samples is advantageous.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Experience<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Minimum of 2 \u2013 3 years\u2019 relevant work experience in a Mine Production \/ Geology environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Technical Skills:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Sound communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Sound computer literacy skills \u2013 MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Sound troubleshooting skills.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Sound coordination and delegation skills.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Sound information monitoring and management skills.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Sound planning, organizing and prioritizing skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Behavioural Attributes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Accuracy.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Attention to Detail.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Commitment.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Continuous Learning.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Critical Thinker.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Goal Oriented.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Judgment.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Decisive.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Independent.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Safety Conscious.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Working Conditions<\/p>\n<p>Work conducted by the position is site-centered.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Incumbent works mostly in the pit where they are exposed to broken rocks on the pit floor due to blasting<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Incumbent is exposed to dust and noise from drill rigs and mining activities in the pit.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Incumbent is exposed to moving rigs and other machinery in the pit.<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Incumbent has to work on a shift basis and may include night duties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Our business success comes from the accomplishments and well-being of our employees and contractors.
