Reporting to the Dean of Academic Affairs, the position requires someone with proven leadership skills and a passion for excellence. A strong sense of ethics is vital to succeed in this position.<\/p>\n<p>The successful applicant will assist with overseeing and directing academic programmes of the university and shall be an integral member of the university\u2019s management team.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Required:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A minimum of a doctorate degree from an accredited and internationally recognized institution<\/li>\n<li>Minimum of seven (7) years\u2019 teaching experience at a university. Experience as a department chair will be an advantage<\/li>\n<li>Experience with the liberal arts method of education is required<\/li>\n<li>Strategic planning skills to effect change in a multi-cultural environment<\/li>\n<li>An accomplished leader who can guide faculty in research activities<\/li>\n<li>Higher level of managerial skills and demonstrated leadership skills<\/li>\n<li>A high level of entrepreneurial skills that translates into building of systems and initiatives including but not limited to academic activities<\/li>\n<li>Experience in developing academic programmes<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of university accreditation processes<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to develop budgets and manage departments in a fiscally responsible and pragmatic manner<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge and skill in communicating effectively utilizing public relations principles and practices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Preferred:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of college educational philosophy, curricula and instructional programmes and top management administrative practices and procedures<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of technological systems as they apply to instructional and administrative functions<\/li>\n<li>Skill in employee development and performance management<\/li>\n<li>Strong leadership skills that promote dedication, creativity, innovation and growth<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic\/multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders<\/li>\n<li>Excellent interpersonal and people skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The general duties for this position includes but not limited to the following:<\/p>\n<p>Academic<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist the Dean of Academic Affairs to work on accreditation processes and also meet other statutory requirements<\/li>\n<li>Assist the Dean of Academic Affairs with affiliation processes both within and outside Ghana<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate the development, review, and revision of academic curricula and assure their quality and relevance<\/li>\n<li>Drive the research and publications initiative at Ashesi<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Leadership<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide leadership, direction and supervision to faculty, staff and students<\/li>\n<li>Promote an environment supportive of the university\u2019s mission and vision, student-centered services and teaching excellence<\/li>\n<li>Promote the professional development of faculty and staff<\/li>\n<li>Develop, maintain and monitor fiscal resources and assist in securing external funding to support educational initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the development and implementation of the College policies, procedures and guidelines as well as college-wide initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Encourage partnerships with stakeholders in the external educational, professional and business communities<\/li>\n<li>Liaise with other educational institutions and the local community to ensure active involvement of the university in community-wide activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Administrative<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chair meetings of the Academic Council in the absence of the Dean of Academic Affairs<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate and run monthly faculty meetings<\/li>\n<li>Participate in mediating faculty and student issues, grievances, and appeals<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate with student deans to support the course scheduling and faculty assignment process<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the selection, hiring, and other personnel decisions associated with faculty and staff<\/li>\n<li>Perform other duties as assigned by the university or that are incidental to the position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>How To Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Qualified applicants should submit their cover letter, CV and other relevant information as attachments to the Human Resource Manager through:<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"mailto:jobs@ashesi.edu.gh\">jobs@ashesi.edu.gh<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Closing 16th june, 2011<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ashesi University College is looking to recruit an experienced and competent academic for the position of\u00a0Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
