Assistant (Medical)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Grade<\/strong>: Physician Assistant (Medical)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsible To<\/strong>: Medical Director<\/p>\n<p><strong>Accountable To<\/strong>: Medical Director<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Purpose:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To provide comprehensive primary health services under supervision in support of the total effort of the health care delivery system with a view to achieve equity in coverage and quality care.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work as a member of Medical Team to provide health care and to monitor and evaluate patient care.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with other disciplines and health care staff to ensure optimum care for clients\/patients.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Main Duties and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Clinical<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assess and prioritize patients presenting at Health Centre\/polyclinic or hospital, according to their medical needs<\/li>\n<li>Undertake confidential patient consultations consisting of:<\/li>\n<li>History taking,<\/li>\n<li>Assessment and<\/li>\n<li>Diagnosis<\/li>\n<li>Initiate and implement care plan for patients<\/li>\n<li>Accurately and legibly record patients\u2019 care and management packages<\/li>\n<li>Assist in providing interventions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Emergency surgical invasive procedures<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Administration of emergency therapies etc<\/li>\n<li>Assist in the performance of minor surgical procedures:<\/li>\n<li>Incision of boils,<\/li>\n<li>Suturing of wounds.<\/li>\n<li>Dressing of wounds, when necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in:<\/li>\n<li>Ward rounds<\/li>\n<li>Clinical meetings<\/li>\n<li>Morbidity\/mortality meetings<\/li>\n<li>General staff meetings etc<\/li>\n<li>Offer primary care to patients with mental health problems and refer as appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>Perform relieving duties at Health Centers and relevant health facilities when necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Community Work<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participate in the outreach community health activities within the catchment\u2019s area<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate community involvement in health programmes<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to maternal and child welfare, family planning programmes and health education talks within the community.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in the collection and reporting on data \u2013 socio\/epidemiological morbidity and mortality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Communication and Working Relationships<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain effective communication with colleagues and other professional groups and clients.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in dissemination of information on health programmes to staff and clients in the facility<\/li>\n<li>Participate in multi-professional meetings and conferences as required.<\/li>\n<li>Promote and safeguard the interest and well being of the patients and visitors at all times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Personal and People Development<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop and maintain continuing personal and professional development to meet the changing demands in the area of primary health services<\/li>\n<li>Monitor own performance against agreed objectives and standards.<\/li>\n<li>Keep log of own performance and in-service training log for purposes of appraisal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Research Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Undertake surveys.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Health and Safety Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take care of own safety and that of other colleagues and clients as appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>Work in compliance with all Medicas Hospital health and safety requirements and attend relevant training to update knowledge in line with Medicas Hospital Health and Safety policy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Quality Assurance<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Comply with all Medicas Hospital Quality Assurance Policy guidelines and work within the prescribed quality standards for the clinical services.<\/li>\n<li>Act as a role model in quality improvement, offering advice and support to others.<\/li>\n<li>Keep up-to-date with quality developments relevant to area of work and related services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prospective candidates must possess the following qualities;<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Be willing to work additional hours<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Work excellently under pressure<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Excellent interpersonal relationship skills<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 A valid
