The Government of Ghana has received funding from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the African Development Bank (AFDB) toward the implementation of the Northern Rural Growth Programme. The programme is highly demand-driven and private sector-led and adopts a value chains approach for developing agricultural growth in Northern Ghana.<\/p>\n

Nearly 45,000 households will directly benefit from a comprehensive intervention including strengthening of producer organisation, infrastructure improvements, improved access to irrigation and agricultural funding.<\/p>\n

The programme aims at developing agricultural value chains and increasing agricultural production. It will help vulnerable groups, including women and young, create profitable commodity and food chains, while improving market linkages for these agricultural products with the domestic and export markets. The programme covers the three northern regions (Upper East, Upper West and Northern region) and contiguous Savannah districts of Brong Ahafo Region.<\/p>\n

Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n

Remuneration: Competitive Salary
\nJob Duration: Two years renewable yearly on the basis of satisfactory performance
\nApplications are invited from suitable qualified individuals for the above stated position in the 8-year Northern Rural Growth Programme of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture<\/p>\n

The Environment Specialist would be based at the Programme Management Unit and be responsible for the environmental aspects of the Programme. He\/she will report directly to the National Programme Co-ordinator
\nSpecific responsibilities of Environment Specialist will include but not limited to the following:<\/p>\n

Elaborate and implement the environmental mitigation plan of the programme<\/p>\n

Guide and supervise the technical support to be provided for the implementation of the environmental mitigation plan<\/p>\n

Assist in the preparation and evaluation of bids for procurement of technical assistance and goods required for environmental mitigation plan implementation; and\u00a0Supervise all environmental mitigation aspects in the elaboration and implementation of commodity development plans with special attention to crop intensification, conservation agriculture, small scale irrigation and road construction<\/p>\n

Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n

At least M.Sc degree in environmental studies or related fields
\nAt least five years working experience in environmental mitigation activities and\/or natural resources management
\nComputer literate especially in relevant areas
\nExcellent writing, presentation and communication skills
\nWillingness and ability to work under minimum guidance; and
\nWillingness to work extra hours<\/p>\n
