Northfin is currently collaborating with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) on the implementation of the \u201cOnion Farmer\u2019s Livelihood and Value Chain Improvement Project\u201d in the Bawku West District under the Food Security and Environment Facility (FSEF) project.<\/p>\n<p>The project aims to improve the livelihood security of 3,000 onion farmers and their families in Bawku West district and their active participation in local, regional and national economic development processes is enhanced in a sustainable way.<\/p>\n<p>For effective implementation of this project, Northfin is looking for a dynamic and experienced person to fill the position of a Project Officer .The position is based in Zebilla and reports directly to the Project Coordinator.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the three (3) year project is to improve the incomes and livelihood security of 3000 onion farmers in the Bawku West District through improved production and marketing of onions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Duration:<\/strong>\u00a02 years, with possibility of renewal<br \/>\n<strong>Duty station:<\/strong>\u00a0Zebilla \u2013 Upper East Region (with regular travelling within and outside the Bawku West district)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main duties and responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure implementation of project activities in collaboration with other stakeholder and partners.<\/li>\n<li>Co-ordinate the purchase and distribution of seed and inputs to target onion farmers<\/li>\n<li>Provide technical advice to onion producers on thematic issues such as onion production and marketing.<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate linkages between onion producers and onion traders to ensure better market for farmers produce.<\/li>\n<li>Actively facilitate linkages and access of onion producers to service providers such as input suppliers, traders, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare progress reports and give periodic updates of project activities to the project coordinator.<\/li>\n<li>Carryout any other responsibilities assigned him\/her by the Project Coordinator.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Renumeration:<br \/>\n<\/strong>Negotiable, but within prevailing market rates offered by similar NGOs in northern Ghana.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Desirable qualities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A degree in agriculture, agronomy, agric extension, or development studies<\/li>\n<li>At least two years working experience in providing extension, technical and logistical support to farmers.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with organic vegetable production and onion production in particular would be an added advantage.<\/li>\n<li>Fluent in English and able to communicate in Kusaal or Gurune.<\/li>\n<li>Be pro-active, a team player, good communication skills, able to work with little supervision and able to meet deadlines<\/li>\n<li>Computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel.
