Its programs focus on helping people to sustainable freedom and dismantling the systems that allow slavery to exist.\u00a0 Free the Slaves has 20 working team members.<\/p>\n<p>Mainly based in Obuasi, the full-time Child Rights in Mining Program Coordinator will set up and manage a new project to reduce all forms of violence and exploitation against children in informal mining settlements. The Program Coordinator will primarily manage the logistics, recruitment, administrative and financial systems for this program. The program uses ethnographic methods for researching child protection needs, sexual exploitation and child slavery issues, leading to creation of an in-depth community engagement program.<\/p>\n<p>The work will take place over a 16-month period beginning in October 2011. The Program Coordinator will be supervised and guided about project design and implementation by the Child Rights Project Leader (who will be based partly in Obuasi and Accra, and partly in the US).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Under guidance of the project leader, recruit local researchers to undertake interviews in local languages in the mining settlements. Make arrangements for their training, transportation, supervision, and payment. Carry out quality control on the interviews and join in visits to the settlements, to assist.<\/li>\n<li>Work with the Project Leader in analyzing interviews.<\/li>\n<li>Assist Project Leader in recruiting artists and designer for a series of booklets. Arrange translation from English to Twi and for printing.<\/li>\n<li>Recruit discussion group facilitators from within or near to the mining settlements. Supervise their leadership of discussion groups, including through regular site visits.<\/li>\n<li>Manage all equipment, supplies, and logistics including safe travel for project activities.<\/li>\n<li>Provide narrative and financial reports to the funder.<\/li>\n<li>Create and manage administrative and financial systems required for the project. Ensure financial accountability and proper management of approved budgets.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with public outreach about the project, and dissemination of its methods and results.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Previous work with grassroots, community-based groups in West Africa, to develop basic rights.<\/li>\n<li>At least two years of project development, implementation, staff management, administration as well as experience in reporting on expenditure.<\/li>\n<li>Desire and willingness for ending exploitation of children and forms of modern slavery. Emphasis on rights-based approaches and respect for cultural values.<\/li>\n<li>Relevant graduate and possibly post-graduate qualification (e.g. social work, community development, child development, business administration, psychology)<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in Twi language is required.<\/li>\n<li>Management and supervision skills, ability to allocate responsibilities and tasks, enabling participants to clearly understand their role and the project expectations.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to listen actively and communicate with people regardless of their education and status.\u00a0\u00a0Ability to work well with people, collaborate and resolve conflict.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent analytical skills.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare accurate expenditure reports.<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to work hard, sometimes out of normal working hours.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to take independent initiative and leadership (following project guidelines), and to work without additional administrative or bookkeeping support.<\/li>\n<li>High level of proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel<\/li>\n<li>Skills in writing clearly and succinctly in English.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate qualities of congeniality, generosity, honesty and humor.
