The position will be based at IWMI\u2019s West Africa Office in Accra, Ghana and will report to a Senior Agricultural Economist in ILRI\u2019s Policies, Institutions and Livelihoods Program through IWMI\u2019s Country Representative \u2013 Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centers dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title:\u00a0Research Officer \u2013 Livestock Policy and Foresight<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties And Responsibilities<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Contribute to data protocol development, collection and analyses, model design and implementation, agricultural\/livestock systems and value chain modelling;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Collate and analyze national statistics such as those published by FAO, the World Bank, and countries\u2019 economics statistics offices, to provide cogent analyses on countries\u2019 agriculture\\livestock and food systems;<\/li>\n<li>Collect and analyze primary data using household surveys, focus group discussions, and other procedure for obtaining relevant agricultural\/livestock\/food system information;<\/li>\n<li>Engage with local researchers, government units, statistical offices and others to obtain data for economic analysis and to validate and augment primary data;<\/li>\n<li>Conduct guided literature reviews and contribute to scientific research writing;<\/li>\n<li>Proper documentation of the data, analyses and\/or model co-design that they contribute.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM<\/strong><strong>\u00a0EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>MSc\/MPhil degree in Agricultural Economics or equivalent<\/li>\n<li>Degree coursework or previous research in agricultural\/livestock science<\/li>\n<li>Two or more years of experience post master\u2019s degree<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Desirable<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Previous use of STATA, SPSS or similar analytical package<\/li>\n<li>Experience using GAMS or other mathematical programming<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of GIS or other spatial analysis software<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Essential<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Intermediate to advanced level quantitative analysis\/modeling<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrable knowledge of livestock systems in developing countries<\/li>\n<li>Good written and oral communication in English<\/li>\n<li>Quantitative data collection and analysis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Desirable<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of partial and\/or general equilibrium modelling<\/li>\n<li>Qualitative data analysis<\/li>\n<li>French and\/or a local Ghanaian language<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>Applications should contain a cover letter explaining their interest in the position, what they can bring to the job and indicating earliest availability,<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>curriculum vitae<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>and the names and details of three referees who are knowledgeable about the candidate\u2019s professional qualifications and work experience.<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Applications must be submitted by 24 00 hrs (Colombo time) on January 24, 2021 (Sunday).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>the Terms of appointment<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>This is a nationally recruited position for one year with possibility of one-year renewal contingent upon six months\u2019 probation period, individual performance and availability of ILRI funding.<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>IWMI believes that diversity powers our innovation, contributes to our excellence, and is critical for our mission.
