This is a high-profile leadership position within the BHC, requiring the job-holder to engage across a wide spectrum of political and other networks in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>The job-holder will provide day-to-day analysis of internal political developments in Ghana (this may, in due course, be extended to include Togo, developing and leading the delivery of the UK\u00a0Government&#8217;s support to monitoring and reporting of Ghana&#8217;s 2012 elections. To do this, the job-holder will need to liaise pro-actively with key contacts at all levels in political parties, chieftaincy and Royal family groups, regional players and faith groups, and be as confident operating outside of Accra as in the capital. The job-holder will undertake this work within the context of the objectives set for the UK\/Ghana bilateral relationship by, and in response to the tasking of, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nThe\u00a0main elements of the job include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In co-ordination with and in response to tasking by the FCO, monitoring of and reporting on internal politics on Ghana<\/li>\n<li>Monitoring Parliamentary affairs including the effective functioning of Parliament<\/li>\n<li>Developing plans for, and supporting inward and outward visits; developing plans for, and support BHC staff visits to Ghana&#8217;s regions<\/li>\n<li>Providing support to the BHC, DFID Ghana and British Council&#8217;s analysis of and support to democracy, governance, accountability, anti-corruption and conflict prevention, identifying opportunities for collective UK Government effort<\/li>\n<li>Supporting the BHC&#8217;s Communications Officer on the UK Government&#8217;s engagement with the Ghana government&#8217;s publicity machinery<\/li>\n<li>Identifying and managing projects to build the capacity of Ghana&#8217;s political and electoral system<\/li>\n<li>Managing the LEIII Assistant, a staff resource shared with the Communications Officer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The successful applicant will need to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Observe the FCO&#8217;s diversity and equality policies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Information for applicants:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This position is within the LEII range of responsibilities. The monthly gross salary range for LEII positions in the BHC is GH\u00a21780 (rising in increments of GH\u00a280 based on performance) to a maximum of GH\u00a22907. The starting salary will be determined by the successful applicant&#8217;s experience and skills, but will be in the range GH\u00a21780 to GH\u00a21941<\/li>\n<li>The appointment will be offered for three years. The appointment Will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period<\/li>\n<li>Specific training and mentoring for the role will be provided for the successful candidate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The skills\/attributes of the successful applicant will include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prioritising in a fast-paced work environment, working largely unsupervised and delivering to deadlines<\/li>\n<li>Keen knowledge and understanding of the current and past Ghana political and electoral systems, including analysis of trends, influencers and key stakeholders for the UK&#8217;s engagement; knowledge of the traditional chieftaincy system communication and influencing skills, including excellent drafting and proof-reading<\/li>\n<li>Ability to maintain high-level contacts with BHC staff and Ghanaian opinion leaders<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The successful applicant is likely to have (one or more of):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A university degree in political studies, journalism, media studies, the liberal arts, social sciences or a related field<\/li>\n<li>Received specialised training in the machinery of government work-place experience of progressively increasing responsibility as a political analyst, , journalist, editor or public relations specialist<\/li>\n<li>Expert knowledge of Ghana&#8217;s media, political, economic, social and educational environments, including key institutions and persons in business and government<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with UK Government institutions<\/li>\n<li>Strong IT skills using Microsoft software<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with UK Government institution<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>How To Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Candidates should send their applications and CV for the attention of:<\/p>\n<p><strong>HR\u00a0Manager<br \/>\nBritish High Commission<br \/>\nOsu Link, Off Gamel Abdul Nasser Avenue<br \/>\nP.
