{"id":6723,"date":"2012-01-18T10:16:09","date_gmt":"2012-01-18T10:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistghana.com\/?p=6723"},"modified":"2013-12-26T16:09:48","modified_gmt":"2013-12-26T16:09:48","slug":"send-ghana-vacancies-2012-communication-officer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistghana.com\/send-ghana-vacancies-2012-communication-officer.html","title":{"rendered":"SEND-GHANA Vacancies 2012: Communication Officer"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>SEND-GHANA, an affiliate of SEND Foundation of West Africa, is a research and advocacy organisation operational in the 50 poorest districts in Ghana (Greater Accra, Northern, Upper East and Upper West Region).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Head Office (Accra)<br \/>\n<strong>Reporting to:\u00a0<\/strong>Director of Programme and Advocacy<br \/>\n<strong>Associates:\u00a0<\/strong>Programmes Officers and Senior Project Officers<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nObjectives of Position:<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Communication Officer manages the production of a full range of advocacy materials to effectively support the advancement of the goals of SEND-GHANA and to convey the Institution&#8217;s mission to diverse constituencies.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Duties, Roles and Responsibilities:<br \/>\n<\/span><strong>Management Roles:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The incumbent is responsible for co-ordinating and managing the development and production of communications materials for all advocacy initiatives;<\/li>\n<li>Manages the publication of the Citizens Watch Newsletter;<\/li>\n<li>Day-to-day management of the SEND&#8217;s website, including updating and ongoing monitoring, gaining input from other SEND staff as necessary<\/li>\n<li>In charge of organising media\/communication events such as press conferences, press soirees etc;<\/li>\n<li>Responsible for the dissemination of communication and advocacy materials;<\/li>\n<li>Ensuring that website structure and content meets the needs of users;<\/li>\n<li>Develop, promote and adhere to best practices and to agreed systems and procedures across all of SEND&#8217;s work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preparation of advocacy materials:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oversees, writes and edits advocacy documents and communication materials including; research publications, policy briefs, fact sheet, press releases, press statements etc;<\/li>\n<li>Co-ordinates the publication of annual reports;<\/li>\n<li>Develops content for information brochures and supervise distribution;<\/li>\n<li>Drafts articles and reports on the status of major initiatives for distribution to the general public and special interest groups\/targeted audience;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Representational roles:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Represent SEND-GHANA at relevant meetings and events;<\/li>\n<li>Present the position of the organisation to media houses including responding to interviews;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Networking roles:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Build a network of and sustain partnership with key media houses;<\/li>\n<li>Create and manage media contact list;<\/li>\n<li>Create and use communication tools as well as manage communication equipment;<\/li>\n<li>Develop and manage an email-alert system;<\/li>\n<li>To remain informed of issues affecting the operation of SEND-GHANA and the Ghana PM&amp;E Network in the context of wider pro poor policy areas;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Others:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To undertake other duties as required and commensurate with the level of this post as may be assigned by supervision;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Required Qualifications, Competences and Experience:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advanced university degree (Masters in Communication\/Public Relations) or equivalent professional qualification, with at least two years&#8217; experience in communications, information-based and\/or advocacy-related communication work<\/li>\n<li>Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of communication as well as good written and oral communication skills to convey messages to diverse audiences;<\/li>\n<li>Experience in editing and proofreading communication documents for public dissemination;<\/li>\n<li>Professional level skills in graphics and knowledge of desktop publishing for in-house graphics design and production;<\/li>\n<li>Professional level skills in publications development;<\/li>\n<li>The ability to translate complex technical language easily comprehensible to non-specialists;<\/li>\n<li>Skills in interviewing variety of people and to analyze complex information from different sources and to synthesise this information into coherent briefs and communication documents;<\/li>\n<li>Proactive approach to meeting deadlines and delivering results with limited supervision;<\/li>\n<li>Flexibility, creativity and effectiveness in working collaboratively in a multicultural team;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to deal with discretion on sensitive issues and to respond positively to challenges;<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with or for coalitions of non-profit organisations;<\/li>\n<li>Web-design knowledge and proven ability to solve IT problems will be prioritised;<\/li>\n<li>Media and awareness-raising experience;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to handle large volume of work and have excellent organisation skills;<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to creating positive environmental, social and cultural change;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to take initiatives and flexible and adaptable in a changing environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>How To Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interested applicants should submit a resume and a cover letter to<\/p>\n<div>\n<strong>The HR Manager<br \/>\nSEND-GHANA<br \/>\nA 28 Regimanuel Estates<br \/>\nNungua Barrier, Sakumono<br \/>\nAccra<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><br \/>\nEmail:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"mailto:send@africaonline.com.gh\">send@africaonline.com.gh<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:accra@sendwestafrica.org\">accra@sendwestafrica.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>SEND is an equal opportunity employer;
