Our work is underpinned by USAID\/Ghana&#8217;s Strategic Objective 5, &#8220;Strengthened Democratic and Decentralized Governance through Civil Involvement.&#8221; <!--more-->LOGODEP is being implemented by MSI, an international development consultancy company based in Washington, DC, in close collaboration with SNV, a Dutch development organisation with strong presence and experience in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>We work in the 17 MMDAs to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>expand public participation in local governance<\/li>\n<li>support targeted districts to increase the amount of funds they generate internally; and<\/li>\n<li>achieve comprehensive development planning for local districts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Contracts are 12-month renewable twice (up to 31 August 2013)<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nIntroduction:<br \/>\nBrief description of the LOGODEP Program:<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Local Governance and Decentralization Program (LOGODEP) is designed to advance USAID\/Ghana&#8217;s Strategic Objective 5, &#8220;Strengthening Democratic and Decentralized Governance through Civil Involvement&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>LOGODEP seeks to support MMDAs and Regional Coordinating Council in implementing the decentralization policy as provided for in both the Constitution of the Fourth Republic of Ghana and the Local Government Act (Act 462)of 1993. The main focus of LOGODEP is to support a sustainable decentralized bottom-up planning, decision-making and implementation process through the training and capacity building of development agents at the district and community levels. In addition, LOGODEP aims to assist MMDAs in improving their capacity in financial management; economic development promotion; integration of decentralized departments into the assembly system; and to support sub-district structures to undertake their roles and functions.<\/p>\n<p>LOGODEP seeks to improve existing service delivery systems at MMDA level, through the provision of training and technical assistance, and to widen the decision-making base by ensuring greater participation in the development process at community, sub-district and districts levels.<\/p>\n<p>LOGODEP will actively support the on-going efforts of the District Assembly to improve internal capacities and to foster operational linkages with sub-district structures, decentralized sector departments, NGOs\/CBOs and the private sector, as a means of ensuring decentralized management and citizen participation at the district level. The program is targeting all the 17 MMDAs of the Western Region and will also support the Regional Coordination Council in playing a more pronounced role in the technical backstopping of the District Planning Coordinating Units and its follow up of compliance issues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LOGODEP\u00a0result areas:<br \/>\n<\/strong>LOGODEP &#8216;s strategic emphasis is based on three result areas:<br \/>\n<strong>Result 1:<\/strong>\u00a0Public participation in local governance expanded<br \/>\n<strong>Result 2:<\/strong>\u00a0Internally generated funds of targeted local districts increased<br \/>\n<strong>Result 3:<\/strong>\u00a0Comprehensive development planning for local districts achieved<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Local Governance and Decentralization Program (LOGODEP-Agreement No. 641-A-00-10-00071-00)<br \/>\n<strong>Job Location:\u00a0<\/strong>Takoradi, Western Region, Ghana<\/p>\n<p>Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals for the following position.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Role:<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Citizen Organization Coach (COC)\u00a0will assist the Citizen Participation Expert in LOGODEP&#8217;s activities related to expanding public participation in local governance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Primary Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Citizen Organization Coach will support the Citizen Participation Expert in planning and managing capacity building activities for CSOs and Traditional Authorities.<\/li>\n<li>The COC will also evaluate grant proposals and budgets and assist beneficiary applicants in revising them as appropriate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Required Skills or Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A university degree in Social\u00a0Work, Community Development,\u00a0Development Studies or related academic field.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent command of written and spoken English.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in similar donor-funded programs will be considered an asset.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>How To Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Detailed job profile is available on request from LOGODEP office Takoradi (PLOT No 42 Airport Ridge) or please email:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:logodep@msi-ghana.com\">logodep@msi-ghana.com<\/a>.
