Job Description

Job Title: General Manager, Shared Services

Job Location

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute a clear strategy for Media General (MG) to ensure achievement of organizational goals.
  •  Provide leadership, management, and oversight to the Heads of Marketing, Technical Operations, Legal, HR & Administration, Corporate Affairs and Programs to maximize efficiencies for the company.
  • Provide policy direction and advice on systems and engineering related issues such as acquisition, maintenance, and operation of equipment and studio.
  • Ensure the implementation of developed policies and procedures for the acquisition and disposal of equipment
  • Monitor developments in the television/ radio industry and advice the organization on technological options to achieve competitive advantage.
  • Undertake a regular review of maintenance, repair and operational procedures to ensure conformity with best practices.
  • Build and maintain the capability of the Company to establish and grow its position as a leading Media Company in Ghana and Africa.
  • Establish departmental policies, yearly objectives, areas of opportunity and goals of MG.
  • Manage ongoing initiatives surrounding public relations, press, content production, marketing and editorial calendars.
  • Develop Departments/Functional/Business Unit strategic plans based on the overall MG Corporate Strategic Plan. Where there are existing departmental or unit plans, they must be aligned with the corporate plan.
  • Demonstrate leadership support for all Departmental initiatives and organizational development activities, modeling expected behaviors to Group Heads to create the desired workplace culture.
  • Put in place effective and efficient risk control systems including the use of modern technology to cut waste and ensure value for money in all operations.
  • Establish performance and reporting measures to provide an effective basis for decision- making
  • In consultation with Group Head of HR, Design, implement and monitor adherence to HR policies in the areas of recruitment, training, and development, employee relations, rewards management, and human resource information systems.
  • Entrench good HR practice at the heart of management and recruit, maintain and support a creative and adaptable workforce capable of meeting the demands of the future.
  • Lead and support Group Head of Marketing to provide expert directions, regarding promotions, brand development, media channels, and positioning as well as other key information for marketing success.
  • Develop, manage and executes strategies that create and uphold a positive public image for clients.
  • Promote and embed a strong performance culture through the setting and monitoring of performance targets for Group Heads.
  • Working collaboratively with Managers across the Department to determine priorities and develop integrated solutions that are best for the client and avoids duplication of effort and expense
  • Ensure that the company runs with legality and conformity to established regulations

COMPETENCIES:

Educational Qualification

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Mechanical/ Networking Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution
  • MBA or any finance related subjects or have worked in a finance related company will be an added advantage.

Technical

  • Minimum Ten (10) years experience in television Engineering and production services of which 5 years must be in a management position.
  • Advanced managerial skills and knowledge
  • Excellent communication, negotiating, persuasive skills
  • Good understanding of broadcast technology and maintenance.

Managerial/Supervisory:

  • Team and people building skills
  • Excellent judgment and Decision making skill
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting the implementation of organizational vision and strategy.
  • Excellent leadership, particularly demonstrating outstanding ability to motivate teams to achieve business results, decisive, and influencing skills.
  • Experience in leading and managing high performing teams
  • Ability to influence direct reports to achieve set targets
  • Ability to design, adapt to and implement change
  • Organize time and priorities to achieve business results in a timely manner
  • Directs work actions and the actions of others toward achieving goals that are critical to the success of the business operation.
