Currently the railway sector in Ghana is undergoing a massive transformation to enable it play a leading role in the rapid industrialization of the national economy and to link Ghana to the rest of West Africa.

Job Description

Basic Functions:
The Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) is looking for dynamic, visionary and change-oriented Managing Director will lead the “renewed” Company to reassert its preeminence as the industry leader-in this dynamic sector. The Managing Director will be responsible for implementing the policies and activities of the Company in line with the strategic direction of the Board of the Ghana Railway Company. The candidate must be a team leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong administrative and organisational skills

Reporting Relationship:

The Managing Director reports to the Board of Directors of the Ghana Railway Company
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide overall leadership and co-ordination of activities in all aspects of the Company with the objective of ensuring delivery of services consistent with the objectives of the Board
Mobilise appropriate resources from internal and external sources to ensure operational and financial sustainability of the Company
Promote the financial management of the Company to include an internal budgetary process, monitored on a regular basis, and reported to the Board of Directors for the evaluation of the financial viability of the Company as set forth in its strategic plan
Make available to the Board of Directors and its committees, comprehensive and accurate information, including periodic reports showing the operational and financial activities of the Company; submit such reports as may be required by the Board and attend all meetings of the Board and its committees as required
Implement appropriate staffing levels and a human resource management plan to facilitate effective delivery of services
Establish formal responsibilities and accountabilities of all staff and ensure that performance is evaluated on periodic basis through a performance management system
Promote, establish and enforce all rules and regulations and such additional procedures as may be necessary to provide for the proper administration of the Company
The position offers competitive and attractive remuneration package

Required Skills or Experience:


A good Masters Degree in engineering from a recognised University in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Telecommunications field, Or an equivalent professional qualification from a recognised professional institution
And MBA dgree from a recognised University
A minimum of 10 years post qualification experience in senior management position in railway or related industries
Ideally, the person would have successfully led an organisation through a period of change, preferably involving restructuring and rightsizing, and demonstrated successful good governance practices in a dynamic business environment
Experience as head of department in operations or financial management may be an added advantage
