Golden Star (Wassa) Limited, a subsidiary of Golden Star Resources (GSIR), with head office in Denver, USE, is a gold mining company situated at Akyempim in the Mpohor Wassa East District of the Western Region. The mining operations consist of a number of open pits, both proximal and distal to the processing plant which consists of a traditional Carbon-In-Leach (CIL) system. In 2008, Benso mining operations commenced to provide a source of high grade ore to the Wassa processing plant. In 2009, mining operations at Hwini-Butre commenced and provide even higher grade ore to the Wassa mill.

Job Description

Contract Period: Two (2) Years Fixed Contract

Reporting to the Projects Superintendent, the role involves the responsibility for ensuring that all approved projects are on schedule at every stage of the project cycle

The successful candidate shall be responsible for:

• Preparing and monitoring projects construction, installation and commissioning schedules by optimizing the usage of resources to ensure that targets are achieved on time and on budget
• Organising and attending site progress meetings to discuss performance of contractors and identifying problems hindering the progress of work and assisting in resolving issues wherever and whenever they arise
• Preparing and monitoring schedules to ensure that jobs are kept within the scheduled timeliness as well as maintaining data base of completed projects
• Providing a timely report and feedback on all projects activities as required by Management
• Ensuring that equipment and materials are available on site as and when required during the project implementation stage and formulate controls to avoid unnecesssary delays and wastage
• Will be required to undertake other site supervisory duties as and when required

Remuneration: The role goes with a very competitive salary package and other fringe benefits.

Required Skills or Experience

• Must have a relevant tertiary qualifications from a recognised institution
• In addition, must have been trained in general construction project planning practices
• Must have at least five (5) years relevant work experience in the construction industry, preferably in the mining environment
• Must demonstrate an extensive exposure in project planning, control and administration in an open cut mining environments
• Must be computer literate with working knowledge in Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office applications. A basic knowledge in AUTOCAD software would be beneficial
• Must demonstrate excellent managerial and supervisory skills
• Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills
• Must be able to drive and should possess a valid Ghanaian Drivers’ License of at least Class C
• Must be a team player with demonstrable skills to take initiative and to work under pressure
