Job Description

Job Title: Senior Underground STP Engineer

Purpose

The core business function of the Senior UG Mine Engineer is to advise and support all technical functions of the Technical Services department such as planning and production and across multiple planning horizons. This role will also consult with the Chief mining engineer on possible business improvement ideas and have a key role in the establishment of the business plan.

General Duties

  • Advice on the development and implementation of weekly, monthly and quarterly production plans in line with operational targets.
  • Responsible for the coordination of all business planning activities required of the technical services team.
  • Advise on the stope design process and performance of all active stopes to maximize recovery and minimize dilution.
  • Apprise the Chief Engineer of opportunities or issues that may affect safe and efficient production through frequent communication.
  • Lead in Business Improvement opportunities by actively contributing to business and cultural improvement initiatives, encouraging team members to participate and identify barriers to production goals.
  • Ensure diamonds drill activities are undertaken in alignment with the 12 month plan and assist in the deliberation of possible geology drill conflicts with mining
  • Manage the creation of all site and regional business reporting requirements and ensure the site reconciliation process is undertaken to a high standard
  • Actively support the site medium term planning team in regards to optimized development layouts, stope designs and mine operating plans
  • Actively support with the integration ofthe open pit site functions and underground mine project
  • Function as advisor and mentor to the site technical team and ensure compliance to site technical procedures and processes.

Safety and Environment

  • Participate and contribute to safe practice and environmental awareness.
  • Actively participate in all Newmont Ghana safety and environmental systems and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate personal commitment in regard to safety and environmental practices.
  • Identification of potential hazards and action that is appropriately taken.
  • Maintenance of a high standard of efficiency, safety and effectiveness.
  • Raising, discussion and resolution of safety issues at regular meetings.

Become familiar with and strictly adhere to Newmont’s Health, Safety and Environmental standards. Act as a role model in complying with and supporting these standards and practices.

Training & Experience

Knowledge: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering.

Experience: 

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in an underground environment which includes underground operational time.
  • Previously undertaken engineering disciplines such as scheduling, drill and blast, planning and ventilation.
  • Previously co-ordinated the business planning process for site advantageous.

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Strong knowledge of Deswik, Ventsim software preferable.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word Excel, Access).

Working Conditions

  • Potential for hazardous conditions exists in underground mines and the incumbent must be familiar with them.
  • Potential for adverse environmental conditions exists in some locations.
