The University: On May 14, 2004 the University of Education Act, Act 672 was enacted to upgrade the status of the University College of Education of Winneba to the status of a full University. The University of Education, Winneba was established in September, 1992 as a University College under PNDC Law 322. University of Education, Winneba brought together seven diploma awarding institutions located in different towns under one umbrella institution. Currently the University has three campuses. The main campus is at Winneba in the Central Region, with satellite campuses at Kumasi and Ashanti Mampong in the Ashanti Region.

Job Description

Duties:

  • Prepare bids for tenders, supervise project teams and submit project report to management
  • Investigate the suitability of materials and methods of construction for compliance with construction code
  • Ensure that projects meet legal, health and safety requirements
  • Ensure quality assurance
  • Discuss specifications of construction plans with architects, surveyors and building contractors
  • Calculate the pressures, stresses and strains on different components of structures
  • Use professional judgment in the application and enforcement of the intent of code requirement

 

Required Skills or Experience

Applicant must:

  • Have M.Sc in Structural/Civil Engineering or its equivalent
  • Be a member of the Ghana Institutes of Engineers or a relevant recognized professional body
  • Have a minimum of four (4) years post-qualification experience as a Structural Engineer
  • Have handled project independently
  • Be able to use computer added design packages
