Job Title 1: General Manager, Technology

Job Description

The company is seeking to recruit highly experienced, results-driven and resourceful IT professionals to fill the above position.

Position reports to the Managing Director.

Purpose of the Position:
To provide strategic and technical leadership in achieving the company’s IT goals and objectives.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership, direction and accountability for the development and delivery of software/service specific solutions that anticipate, meet or exceed customer requirements
• Design, build, integrate and support software, hardware and network solutions to support current and new business initiatives
• Develop, evaluate and monitor long-term technology strategies
• Develop, IT departmental objectives to achieve maximum human and material resources allocation/utilization, monitor performance and when necessary, take corrective measures
• Provide technical leadership to the IT team based on solid hands-on experience in different IT areas
• Support and meet company objectives on cost and quality in the development, deployment and life cycle management for both domestic and international services for growth and expansion
• Coach Unit heads and Engineers on areas such as-critical thinking, leadership, project management, development methodologies, budget management among others
• Direct Unit head to incorporate and establish software best practices into the delivery cycle
• Prepare and manage IT departmental budget based on business drivers and company policies and procedures business drivers and company policies and procedures
• Oversee vendor management activities
• Perform other related tasks as may be assigned from time to time  

Required Skills or Experience

• A minimum of a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field from a recognized institution
• Certification in Project Management and other IT related courses will be an advantage
• A minimum of twelve (12) years experience in general technology eight (8) years of which must be in a senior management position

Technical Competencies Required

• Exceptional knowledge of large scale product development and support environment; systems and application architecture, utilizing various hardware and operating systems components, implementation and network engineering
• Extensive knowledge of telecommunications and wireless industry knowledge
• Strong knowledge of project management practices including the ability to create detailed project plans; manage end-to-end projects; resource allocation  and management; project risk analysis; contractor management
• Strong knowledge of third-party vendor tools (monitoring, scalability, performance tuning) and thorough knowledge and understanding of procurement practices
• Extensive knowledge of designing, developing, implementing and supporting applications on at least two of the following operating systems; UNIX, MVS, Windows, Tandem
• Extensive experience in applications with heavy RDBMS interaction

Managerial Competencies Required:

• At least eight (8) years experience in successfully managing at least thirty (30) team members to deliver multiple product/applications
• Good knowledge of people management practices including mentoring, managing performance and team building
• Solid decision-making skills

Personality Competencies Required:

• Strong analytical, business logic and problem resolution skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong leadership skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
