Job Description

Position Title: Private Sector Liaison

• Project: Empowering Women and Girls in Supply Chains – Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) in Ghana

Nature and Scope:
World University Service of Canada is currently seeking an experienced Private Sector Liaison to support the Empowering Women and Girls in Supply Chains inititative, to be funded by the U.S. Department of Labour – Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB). WUSC is seeking to implement the ILAB program in Ghana.

The project objective is to reduce the risk of child labor, forced labor, and other violations of labor rights for vulnerable women and girls working within the Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) sector in Ghana. The project will aim to achieve the following outcomes: (1) improved economic participation by women and girls vulnerable to child labor, forced labor, and/or other violations of labor rights within the ASM sector; and (2) improved business practices by private sector actors to protect against child labor, forced labor, and other violations of labor rights for vulnerable women and girls working within the ASM sector.

The Private Sector Liaison will provide technical support to the project in terms of the design and implementation of private sector outreach activities, including partnership facilitation and management, awareness raising and educational campaigns for industry stakeholders, and co-creation of initiatives with private sector actors designed to achieve the outcomes of the project.

The Private Sector Liaison will work closely with the Project Director and other key actors of the initiative to ensure that these activities are well coordinated and well understood by various project stakeholders.
The position will be based at WUSC’s office in Accra, Ghana with frequent travel domestically, as well as infrequent international travel as related to project activities, coordination and management requirements. This position is contingent upon the receipt of donor funding. The chosen candidate would work alongside a team of international and national experts in the implementation of the initiative.

Required Skills or Experience

• Minimum three years of professional experience in the area of corporate social responsibility or private sector supply chain social compliance programs;
• Ability to maintain working relationships with all project stakeholders, including coalition building and partnership promotion;
• Understanding of key labor issues, including child labor, forced labor, gender discrimination, and workplace exploitation;
• Ability to meet deadlines, achieve targets and provide all required inputs to deliverables.
• Fluent in English.
