The UK is one of Ghana’s largest donors, supporting the Government of Ghana and other partners to reduce poverty, support growth and achieve high quality outcomes in health and education. Following an extensive review at the beginning of 2011, the UK Government department responsible for the aid programme – the Department for International Development (DFID) – launched a new Operational Plan. As part of this plan, DFID Ghana is now looking to recruit a number of key posts, to help the enlarged office manage a substantial annual budget and to deliver significant results that improve the lives of some of the poorest people in the country, whilst creating the jobs and economic growth needed to sustain further development in years to come.

1. Programme Assistant – Grade C1

Job Description

DFID Ghana is inviting well motivated and dynamic individuals to send their applications for the following posts.

Key Responsibilities:
DFID Ghana needs a Programme Assistant to support the work of the teams. The Programme Assistant plays a vital role by communicating and managing information on DFID Ghana’s work, managing programme expenditure, and coordinating the team’s everyday work.

  • The post holder would be responsible for providing programme management and administrative support to the Team Leader, Advisers and other programme staff.
  • Contribute to the planning and monitoring of the team’s objectives through management of the team plans.
  • Assist in efficient arrangement of logistic for meetings and put in transport request for all external appointments.
  • Effectively monitor performance report, disbursement of funds and request for information and raise issues for discussion with team.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationship with key partners in Government of Ghana, Donor Agencies, NGO and CSOs.
  • Maintain contact with other Programme and Management Unit staff and with DFID HQ to ensure organisation processes are being followed correctly and effectively.

 

Required Skills or Experience

Pre-requisites:

  • The successful candidate must possess suitable qualifications from a recognized institution with practical experience in working in a project environment. Should possess good corporate IT skills.

2. Head of Corporate Services – Grade A2L

DFID Ghana is inviting well motivated and dynamic individuals to send their applications for the following posts.

Key Responsibilities:
DFID Ghana needs an experienced and flexible Head of Corporate Services (DFID Grade A2L) who can deliver a range of strategic, financial and human resource policies to provide: high quality financial management across the whole office; best practice in procurement, securing real value for money; and responsive, timely and forward looking human resource services.

  • The post will lead a team of 10 people and will also lead on corporate compliance for all aspects of the Ghana office; have strategic oversight and responsibility for the delivery of DFID Ghana management systems; oversee other management functions, including housing and transport; and provide leadership within the office as one of DFID Ghana’s senior managers

 

Required Skills or Experience

Pre-requisites:

  • The successful candidate must have a good degree from a recognised institution, plus a minimum of 4 years experience at the managerial level. A Master’s Degree or MBA will be advantageous

3. Senior Programme Officers – Grade B1

DFID Ghana is inviting well motivated and dynamic individuals to send their applications for the following posts.

Key Responsibilities:
DFID Ghana needs two experienced Senior Programme Officers to deliver the DFID Ghana programme, specifically the Human Development and Social Protection Team and the Accountability and Results Team.

  • The officers would work specifically, on health, education and social protection, and on governance, accountability and civil society programmes.
  • These posts will manage, co-ordinate and monitor inputs needed to deliver their team’s annual Results Framework, including effective line management of Assistant Programme Officers and the Programme Assistant.
  • Postholders will have a lead role in ensuring an effective and well managed programme portfolio and will make recommendations to the Team Leaders on opening, managing and closing key programmes

 

Required Skills or Experience

Pre-requisites:

  • The successful candidate must have a good degree in a development related field with not less than 3 years practical experience in project cycle management including financial management and reporting. A Master’s Degree will be an advantageous

4. Programme Officers – Grade B2

DFID Ghana is inviting well motivated and dynamic individuals to send their applications for the following posts.

Key Responsibilities:
DFID Ghana needs two new Programme Officers to manage the office’s growing programme. These posts will be located in two programme teams. The purpose of the posts is to provide administrative support to enable programme teams to meet the highest standards in compliance with DFID corporate policy and procedures, thereby contributing to DFID Ghana’s strategic objectives. As part of the team, the Programme Officer will assist in the management of the team’s portfolio which will largely involve, but is not limited to, project cycle management including financial management and reporting.

  • In addition, one of the posts will support best practice procurement for the office. Working with the Deputy Head of Corporate Services, who leads on procurement, and the Deputy Head of Office, who is the Commercial champion, this post will help deliver a fully compliant procurement service that drives forward DFID’s commitment to ensure the maximum value is achieved for very Cedi spent in Ghana.
  • The second post will provide in addition to its core duties, IT support to the office. The successful candidate will receive training on DFID systems and processes to enable them to deliver a responsive IT service, drawing on support from colleagues in the British High Commission, Abuja and the UK.

 

Required Skills or Experience

Pre-requisites:

  • The successful candidate must have a good degree in a development related field with not less than 2 years practical experience in programme management. In addition, basic qualifications in software and hardware and knowledge of procurement practice will be an added advantage for the two posts respectively
