Applications are invited from suitably qualified Ghanaian Nationals for the post of Information Communication Technology (ICT) Assistant (General Service Category). Non-Ghanaians will not be considered.

Purpose of the Post:
Under the supervision of the Operations Manager provide technical, operational and strategic support and end user services in the implementation and support of information management (systems, procedures and activities) and the Network/Telecommunication infrastructure of UNICEF Tamale Office.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot minor hardware problems in computer desktop, laptop and server systems, printer, UPS, Scanner, floppy and CDROM/DVD drives and other computer related equipment. Liaise with external companies for repair and maintenance of equipment that cannot be handled inhouse
  • Work as first line Help Desk staff in providing IT Support and attending to end-users’ requests and problems. Configure and install UNICEF standard software on new computers and laptops on arrival and co-ordinate with GCO ICT officer and global help desk NYHQ in the resolution of problems
  • Administer the office multi-user network, other data and telecommunication facilities. This involves administering user access to the network, setting up e-mail (lotus notes) clients, providing access to LAN resources (printers and servers), and performing health checks of various computer and telecommunication systems. Setting up remote access to email, internet and Citrix applications for mobile users
  • Provide technical support to Admin. unit in analysing and processing telephone and other telecommunication bills. Liaise with Ghana Telecom and other Telephone companies in resolving problems. Install and configure satellite telephone & communication equipment for voice and data during emergency as part of the office’s business continuity plan
  • Train all UNICEF staff (both old and new) visitors in the use of VHF communication radios and other telecom equipment. Configure VHF radio handsets for users and mobile HF equipment in vehicles. Coordinate with other UN agencies to ensure efficient use of telecommunication equipment and radio resources. Provide security by ensuring the availability, integrity and confidentiality of UNICEF Information & communication equipment and assets. Carry out preventive maintenance to protect computer systems from internal and external hazards
  • Prepare training material and provide training to end users on basic computer operations and technology whenever introduced. Provide IT support durIng training, workshop and other staff events
  • Ensure the continuity of the office’s power supply system by monitoring the maintenance and availability of the primary and alternate sources of power supply
  • In liaison with GCO IT officer, provide proactive support in maintaining and updating Tamale office business continuity and follow-up its implementation and periodic testing
  • Any other administrative assignment assigned by the supervisor

Remuneration: Competitive and attractive
 

Required Skills or Experience

  • BSC in Compute Science or Secondary education supplemented with professional courses (CISCO/A+, N+, Security+, MSCE/MSCA etc) with five (5) years of hands on experience. Working knowledge of email (Lotus Domino/Notes client 8.5, Exchange/Outlook 2000, SQL, Windows NT/2003, and Networking, LAN/WAN desirable
  • Three (3) years progressively responsible experience in computer information management work, including data processing applications, database management, multi-user network and telecommunications, hardware/software installation, user assistance, end-user documentation and local office computer programming, in support of office computerization automation
  • Fluency in English required. Working knowledge of French is an asset
  • Knowledge of local working language of the duty station an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of computer system management and applications
  • Ability to conduct training
  • Good judgment, initiative, ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
